How do you break a bad habit? I’ve been biting my nails for as long as I can remember. I watched other family members have the same nervous habit. I’ve tried everything to quit and can’t seem to find anything that will work. I even tried the bitter tasting liquid that you apply to fingers and I would bite through it or just wash it off. But when I get stressed or just working on my laptop, I find myself biting my nails and surrounding area and I can’t control it!
Since my nails never look good I decided to put on acrylic nails. I have been even biting and breaking the acrylic. My manicurist hates me for it. Plus it costs extra money when you bite them off or ruin them. So I decided to look into hypnosis. A friend of mine said his wife is a therapist and hypnotist and I heard this has been successful for people. I went in for a consultation appointment and learned how hypnosis works. Through hypnosis it gets down to our subconscious level in our brain. I took a few written tests to understand how I take orders — whether direct or indirect — and this will help how the therapist talks to me under hypnosis. I went for my first session almost two weeks ago. I was very skeptical, but willing to try anything to help me control my bad habit. I really doubted that I could go under hypnosis and relax with my ADD and my mind always wandering, but I did. The office was very relaxing and I felt very comfortable. I went to Shirley Patterson with Patterson company in Lake Orion, Michigan. I laid back in the comfortable chair and we began. As she started I was getting very relaxed and sleepy. I could hear her voice, but knew I was falling into a trance. I heard her voice the entire time, but never felt like I could open my eyes. I even saw this purple haze, like fireworks bursting, which means a sign of healing. I woke up and felt just relaxed, but still very energetic. She gave me a CD and recommended I listen to it once or twice a day for the next two weeks until my next hypnosis session. The CD is approximately 19 minutes long and has a similar relaxation technique. She recommends listening to it numerous times a day with morning being the best. I’ve listened before bed which really helps me relax and sleep well. Everyone knows it takes 21 to 28 days to break a habit. I have only bitten my nails a couple of times since then when I get this feeling of stopping! I have been a little bit on the sides when I feel the roughness. I am very optimistic and excited if this really helps. Hipnosis is wonderful for people with anxiety, smoking or other habits that can help you kick a habit or relax.
